Today when I think of getting publicity I think about my efforts with social media. But some of the standard methods of print, radio and TV are still a good way to build name recognition.
This morning I was doing a little research on creating book trailers. I found a free Kindle book Book Marketing, Book Trailers and Author Etiquette in a Nutshell that had some good information. One thing that sparked my over the top imagination was creating a book trailer to be shown before movies. This seems like something that would be super expensive but it actually is in the realm of doable.
Here in Vancouver, WA we have Regal Cinema and they have a pdf that you can download that gives their rates and what is available.
The catch is that you have to run the ads for a minimum of 13 weeks. Each ad (at the time of this writing) costs $70 per week. But your 10 to 12 second ad display gets a lot of exposure. It will run three times before each movie on all 6 theater screens.
Of course I don’t have $910 dollars to spend on advertising – but I find the idea intriguing. I wish they had smaller packages that would run less than 13 weeks.
At any rate I try to keep an open mind to exploring as many different ways to promote a book as I can. Some are in the realm of “someday maybe” and some like doing this daily book post and a bit of twitter are in the “every little bit helps” category.
