Wednesday is my day to work on the website. I decided to change the theme to something a bit more colorful. I have been using the Studio Press themes which I love but this time I went with a plain free WordPress theme called Compass by InkThemes.com. So far I like it.
One nice feature with this theme is that it is very easy to install your own favicon. A favicon is that tiny image (logo) at the top of the screen that identifies your site by image. Different themes have different ways to do this. Some require overwriting an image directly into the website directory. I have done that but it is more of a challenge. For this site I simply created an image 512 x 512 pixels, saved it and uploaded it through the Customize section. Very sweet.
The trick with creating your own favicon is to make it very simple. Like the twitter icon which is clean and clear cut so that when it shows up on the menu bar at about 25 pixels it is viewable. The image I made was simply the leading initials of the name of my Publishing company. Grasher Publishing.
I did the same thing for this website – AYearWithJohnKremer.com
