The big news for me is that I finally figured out the new ending for the book. A bit late in the day but I think it is good. Yesterday I purchased a book template from BookDesignTemplates called Affection. It is designed especially for children’s books which means the font size, spacing, etc. are all perfect for a children’s book. Yea.
I had tried using a template directly from Amazon before and it worked okay – but there was a lot to change for a children’s book AND it wasn’t as nice as this one is. To make things even more blessed I was actually able to load my whole book into the template without tearing my hair out. That was a bit of a shock for me. Imagine something actually working the first time! There was a few little bumps but very manageable.
Today I spent a couple hours trying to figure out how to get my printer to print the book as a booklet. It is supposed to be easy – but wasn’t. I had made up my mind though even if it took me the whole day I was going to figure it out. My last printer was a duplex printer and printing a booklet on that was easy. Still I did it eventually. I watched this 3 minute video which helped.
I am now at the point where I will have the book proofed. My sisters are going to help me. They seem to get the “grammar” thing a lot better than I do. Plus even if I was a grammar expert I know from experience that I never catch my own mistakes. The first book I did I had at least six people proofing it and after it was printed we still found errors.
So I am feeling excited that the book is actually looking like it will make the printing deadline. It won’t be available for sale in 20 days but it will be off my desk and on its way. I plan to order several proofs once I get the “OK” back from Createspace and have a couple of people review it then as well.
Then my thought is to work on getting some advance reviews. I plan on ordering some books (as proofs) so that I can send out a few advance copies. I don’t really want to hit the “publish” button until I have my book launch in place which will be March 19th.
My hope is to spend the next two and a half months heavily concentrating on building my book platform, publicity and marketing outreach Lots to do – the book is just the beginning.
