Sunday I researched Ingram Spark to see if this would be a viable option for me to print books. I had read a good article saying it was the better way to go with print books. After a couple of hours of looking it over and comparing prices I decided it wasn’t for me. Maybe if I was doing huge sales to book stores but otherwise not.
There are other places to get POD (print on demand) books done. Just found this article here which gives a price comparison of different places but I don’t really trust the research. They are very negative against CreateSpace saying the books are very inferior. My proof book was wonderful! This is my seventh book I am self publishing (the other six through a regular book printer) and the quality is great. Good binding, quality paper and good color print of cover. I went with the matte finish. The article stated it would cost $1,151 and so far I can see the only upfront cost will be $10.00 for the ISBN (I chose the option to have my own publishing company listed) and the price of the book plus shipping. I ordered 5 proof copies for $25.00.
If I had more money to work with I might check out some other places but for now CreateSpace will do just fine. I may go with Smashwords for ebook printing as well as with Kindle. Plan on using Fiverr.com to hire someone to get my book ready for Smashwords. Have done it myself but never really got super good with it. Thinking for this first book I want to keep it free or .99 for a while and for that I will need a printer like Smashwords.
